It’s Time for the Wall Government to get Saskatchewan out of it’s hog-tie
Saskatchewan Liberal Leader Ryan Bater is calling on the Wall government to reimburse farmers owed money by Big Sky Pork Farms, and to also sell its share in the hog operation. The previous NDP government bought a 70% share of Big Sky Pork Farms that is worth $30-million. The company filed for creditor protection last week.
“It’s outrageous that farmers who sold feed barley to Big Sky Pork are not being paid what they are owed by the company,” said Bater. “Since the taxpayers of Saskatchewan own the majority shareowner in Big Sky, the Wall government should do right by our producers, and pay the individual producers what they are owed by the company.”
At the same time, Bater says enough is enough, and that it is time for the Saskatchewan Party government to get out of the business of being in business, “The Saskatchewan government has no business owning shares in a hog production company and now the province’s share of Big Sky is in jeopardy. This is the same as hog-tying Saskatchewan taxpayers. It is high time for Premier Wall to put the province’s share of Big Sky on the market as soon as possible.”
“The Saskatchewan Party claims to be a free enterprise party. However it has been in government in our province for over two years now, and has not moved at all to sell the province’s equity stake in Big Sky. If the Saskatchewan Party wants to prove it is not identical to the NDP, it will put the province’s 70% share of Big Sky Pork up for sale right away. The sooner Saskatchewan taxpayers are free from being hog-tied by this mess, the better.”
