Come Together in Riderville

When you think of all of the diversity of our vast province and the political, spatial, and cultural conflicts that we hear about on a daily basis, you start to wonder what there is to bring us all together.

You stop wondering whenever you go to a Rider game.

There really is no substitute to the Riders in Saskatchewan. Although headquartered in Regina, the Riders really are a provincial team. I have driven a very long 8- hour return trip to watch games for years. Yesterday I was at the Western Final and lucked out by getting aisle seats. Although you have to get up every few minutes or so for people who want to get out, you also get to see everywhere walk up and down the stairs.

During the game I met up with no fewer than 15 people that I knew in that aisle- people from all over the province- and it really struck me that I am certainly not the only person making a long trip to be at Mosaic Stadium. Then I started to wonder- what else would make people come this far? What else would motivate people to spend their hard earned money and valuable time like this? What else would bring us all together?

The difficulty of answering that question is what makes the Rider experience a great one. It also gives me hope that despite all of the differences and disagreements out there, there are still some things that make us all the same.
