Takin’ it to the Streets
I have certainly lucked out lately with unseasonably warm weather. For the past few weeks I have been out door knocking in the evenings in my hometown of the Battlefords, and the positive evening temperatures sure make things a lot more pleasant.
While many people are surprised to see me out two years before the next election, the reason for going out is precisely because there is so much time. The lack of time pressure allows me to have real conversations with people about the issues that are important to them, and some of the concerns that they have about the current political dynamic in Saskatchewan.
The information we collect will help to shape our next policy convention, so that the policies and platform of the Saskatchewan Liberals actually reflect the will of the people. People are tired of politicians telling them what they think they want to hear, and there is a real yearning for a new approach.
Conventional politicking may call for an opinion poll or focus group to help determine political direction, but there is absolutely no substitute for the hard work associated with pounding the pavement, meeting people, and getting direct information on what is important to them.
The positive feedback I have been receiving so far and invitations to sit around kitchen tables are strong indicators that we are on the right track. That is, until the weather changes ;)
