Saskatchewan Liberals Propose New Policy Solutions for Province
Saskatchewan Liberals held their Annual Convention & AGM this past weekend in Saskatoon. Delegates from across the province heard from speakers, debated policy, and discussed preparations for the upcoming 2011 provincial election.
The theme for the convention was "Power to the People", with policy discussions focusing primarily around the areas of energy, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.
Policies approved by delegates include: the introduction of a feed-in tariff that would allow anyone to produce renewable energy and sell it back to the electrical grid; opposition to Enterprise Saskatchewan in favour of a de-centralized approach to encourage local decision making; directing a portion of one-time resource revenues to a new Saskatchewan Future Fund; and a commitment to First Nations and Métis principles including implementation of a representative workforce.
Speaking to delegates, Saskatchewan Liberal Leader Ryan Bater stressed the importance of discussing new ideas to move Saskatchewan forward. “While the other parties have been busy exchanging insults and running negative advertising, we are focusing on new ideas for Saskatchewan,” said Bater. “The people of Saskatchewan deserve a bold and innovative vision for the future of our province. Saskatchewan Liberals are working hard to provide that vision.”
Liberals will continue to generate new ideas over the coming months with another policy gathering planned for Fall 2010. “We want to continue our dialogue with the people of Saskatchewan so we can put forward more ideas to realize the full potential of our province,” concluded Bater.
