CTF confirms Sask Liberal plan the only one that will save your money
NORTH BATTLEFORD--With less than a week left to go in the Saskatchewan election, the Canadian Taxpayer's Federation (CTF) has confirmed that the Saskatchewan Liberals are the only party committed to saving taxpayer's money.
“This isn’t one of those elections where someone can say ‘all the parties are the same,” said CTF Prairie Director Colin Craig in a recent release (http://taxpayer.com/saskatchewan/sk-update-cost-party-spending-commitments).
According to the CTF's analysis, the Liberal plan will save Saskatchewan over $3 billion over four years, while the Sask Party and the NDP would continue to inflate government spending. The size of government has grown by almost 32% since the Sask Party took office in 2007. Based on their platforms, the NDP would raise government expenditures by an additional 24% over the next four years, while the Sask Party is close behind with a projected 19% increase.
"All we have heard from Brad Wall and Dwain Lingenfelter since the start of this campaign is a cynical attempt to buy your votes," said Saskatchewan Liberal Leader Ryan Bater. "On a week where the G20 is meeting to discussing the serious debt crisis in Europe, this is an appropriate time to reflect on our own financial situation as a province. While we have enjoyed good times as of late, they won't last forever."
"That is exactly why the Saskatchewan Liberals are proposing a practical plan to secure our financial future."
The Saskatchewan Liberal plan (available at http://saskliberals.ca/platform) commits to aggressive debt repayment to eliminate the $420 million in debt servicing the province pays every year. As the debt is eliminated, the PST will be lowered to 3%, at which point 50% of of future non-renewable resource revenues will be put into a sovereign wealth fund. The Saskatchewan Liberals are also proposing that within the first 100 days after the election, a government-wide value-for-money audit be conducted with a goal of reducing government spending by 10% from current levels.
