Saskatchewan Liberals Take Aim at NDP “Fantasy Land” Calculator

North Battleford – Today the Saskatchewan Liberal Party is releasing their own election calculator, highlighting the risky financial assumptions in the platforms of the NDP and Sask Party. The on-line calculator allows voters to compare what the financial impact would be of the NDP, Sask Party and Liberal platform promises based on five different economic scenarios for the province:

Called the "Saskatchewan's Financial Future Calculator", this on-line platform comparison tool is available at: http://www.saskliberals.ca/calculator

“Yesterday the NDP claimed that they had a ‘game changer’ with their online savings calculator. Yet all of their election promises are based on fantasy finances,” said Saskatchewan Liberal Leader Ryan Bater. “Anything other than the most rosy growth scenarios and major increases in potash royalties means they will be running major deficits. The Sask Party is hardly any better, where even a rounding error in provincial revenue projections will put their platform into deficit.”

“Only the Saskatchewan Liberals are putting forward a plan with vision that seeks to end the spending spree in Regina and secure our financial future,” said Bater. “Look at the events unfolding in Greece and elsewhere around the world. The NDP and Sask Party are making platform promises based on the illusion that ‘good times are here to stay’. This is deeply troubling as we all saw what happened in the 1980s when governments had that type of thinking.”

“This is why we are fighting hard in a three-way race in the The Battlefords to ensure that there is a Liberal voice in the Legislature to keep the other parties accountable for these irresponsible election promises”, said Bater. “Only the Saskatchewan Liberals have a plan to secure our financial future.”

In addition to a pledge to reduce the provincial budget by 10%, the Saskatchewan Liberal Party platform also calls for securing Saskatchewan’s financial future through a three-step plan of debt elimination, reducing the PST to 3% and investing 50% of future non-renewable resource revenues into a sovereign wealth fund.
