Tight Race in The Battlefords Promises an Exciting Election Night
North Battleford – With a Sask Party victory province-wide a foregone conclusion, Saskatchewan Liberal Leader Ryan Bater is predicting that The Battlefords will be the most interesting riding in the province to watch on election night.
“There is no doubt in my mind that we are in a legitimately tight race here in the Battlefords,” said Bater. “Our internal polling in the Battlefords is showing what provincial polling is, namely that NDP support is collapsing. I have a lot of respect for Len Taylor’s public service, but it is increasingly becoming clear that he will not win. Our local campaign has continued to pick-up momentum throughout the election, and driving down the streets our support is quite visible with more lawn signs than any other candidate. That is why when Brad Wall was in town yesterday, he was canvassing our sign locations – the Sask Party’s own numbers are showing that this is now a race between me and Herb Cox.”
Earlier this week, the Saskatchewan Liberals released their "Saskatchewan's Financial Future Calculator", an on-line platform comparison tool which highlights how risky the NDP and Sask Party platforms are to Saskatchewan’s financial future. The calculator is available at: http://www.saskliberals.ca/calculator
“This is why we are fighting hard in the The Battlefords, to ensure that there is a Liberal voice in the Legislature to keep the other parties accountable for their irresponsible election promises,” said Bater. “Only the Saskatchewan Liberals have a plan to secure our financial future.”
On the first day of the campaign, the Saskatchewan Liberal Party released its full platform. It calls for securing Saskatchewan’s financial future through a three-step plan of debt elimination, reducing the PST to 3% and investing 50% of future non-renewable resource revenues into a sovereign wealth fund. It also proposes strategic investments in education, making mental health and addiction a priority including immediately rebuilding the Saskatchewan Hospital, financially supporting caregivers of seniors, and measures to encourage entrepreneurship. The platform also calls for ending the runaway spending growth in Regina, which has seen the size of government increase by almost 32% in just 4 years.

“Voters in the Battlefords have a clear choice on election day,” said Bater. “They can elect a voiceless backbencher in a Sask Party landslide, or the Leader of a party who can fight on the provincial stage for the issues that matter to this community. The Battlefords was the last place in Saskatchewan to elect a provincial Liberal, and on Monday we will again.”
