Commitment of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party to First Nations and Métis Peoples of Saskatchewan
We, the Saskatchewan Liberal Party acknowledge it is essential to develop a partnership with First Nations and Métis people of Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Liberal Party understands that it is only through inclusion of our Provinces First Nation and Métis Peoples in the social, economic and political arenas that our Province will truly prosper. It is in this spirit of cooperation and equal partnership the Saskatchewan Liberal Party agrees to apply the following principles of cooperation within the Liberal Party of Saskatchewan and its future Liberal Party of Saskatchewan government.
1. Insofar as the Spirit and Intent of the Treaties is one of partnership, peaceful co-existence, prosperity and respect, identical to the basic principals of Prairie Liberalism, therefore, we will pursue personal Liberty and inclusion by using the Treaties as a blue print for the future as part of the guiding principles.
2. The role of the state is to foster a free market economy by cultivating conditions of fair competition and ensuring equal opportunity of citizens to participate. Social and economic ventures should be the result of community and individual initiatives. And in keeping with the aforementioned and thereby demonstrating fairness and inclusion a Representative Workforce will be implemented at all levels of government.
3. Given that First Nations and Métis are integral part of the Province of Saskatchewan We in the Saskatchewan Liberal Party being a Responsible Government commits a Secretariat within the Premier’s Office to directly address First Nation and Métis issues.
We the undersigned commit the Saskatchewan Liberal Party to abide by this Commitment to the First Nations and Métis Peoples of Saskatchewan from this day forward in the Spirit and Intent of the Treaties.
This Commitment shall be governed by the laws of Canada and, except were they may conflict with the laws of Canada, by the laws of Saskatchewan.
