What do you think?

It's a simple question. Unfortunately, it's not something political parties ask much these days. Saskatchewan Liberals want to change that.

Saskatchewan Liberals are mobilizing to rattle the cage of political debate in Saskatchewan by confronting the entrenched habits of our province's political powers; their top-down decision making, closed-doors policy development and empty “left” vs “right” rhetoric.

By contrast, the Saskatchewan Liberal Party believes in:

Values-based policy. We refuse to be held to the narrow-minded and simplistic rhetoric of “left vs. right.” The Liberal principles of Personal Liberty, Free Enterprise, and Responsible Government are not “left-wing” or “right-wing,” they are the articulation of a moral concern for the right of individuals and communities to be empowered to determine their own courses as they see fit.

Grassroots democracy. It is not up to lobby groups and entrenched powers to decide what enters the policy arena on the basis of what serves their narrow interests. It is the equal right of every individual.

“Politics is about power. The difference between parties is in terms of where they choose to invest power. The NDP believes power should be invested in the collective, in the state, so they favour big government. Brad Wall’s Conservatives believe power should be kept where it is, in the hands of the privileged, so they favour big business. We believe power should be invested in the individual.” - Saskatchewan Liberal Leader Ryan Bater

Merit-based advancement of ideas. Your viewpoint stands on its own merits. We are a diverse collection of free-thinking individuals who will be heard as strongly as we make ourselves heard through the merit of our views. No one will gag you here or dictate your role from behind closed doors or from beyond the borders of our province.

We invite you to participate in the discussions that are being held to refine and articulate our recent policy resolutions and to help form future policy. No one will ever accuse us of having a hidden agenda as our platform for 2011 is being developed right here in the light of day.

For the entire first decade of this new century, Saskatchewan politics has been bogged down in tired old arguments by tired old parties who seem to hate one another more than they care about the people they are supposed to represent. It's time for new approaches. It starts right here.
